The debate over whether to use a controller or a keyboard and mouse in PC first-person shooter games will rage on indefinitely. Should you use a controller’s auto-aim or a mouse’s precision? Call of Duty is an FPS that works well with a controller. And in the free-to-play battle royale Call of Duty: Warzone, you can customize the controller settings to personalize your experience and maximize your skills.
In a warzone, movement is essential. You’re fighting a losing battle if you don’t have “cracked” movement on Caldera, Rebirth Island, or Fortune’s Keep. A few simple controller settings changes can mean the difference between winning and losing online.
If you decide to use a controller to play Warzone on PC, here are the default settings you should use.
Best Controller Settings For Warzone

- BR Button Layout: Tactical
- Stick Layout Preset: Default
- Invert Vertical Look: Disabled
- Deadzone: 0.5
- Horizontal Stick Sensitivity: 5
- Vertical Stick Sensitivity: 5
- ADS Sensitivity Multiplier (Low Zoom): 1.00
- ADS Sensitivity Multiplier (High Zoom): 1.00
- Aim Response Curve Type: Standard
- Controller Vibration: Enabled
The standard Call of Duty controller settings come into play here. If you’ve played any other Call of Duty game or Modern Warfare, you should be familiar with these and have an idea of what you like to use for each of them.
Sensitivity is particularly important. Some players prefer it lower, while others prefer it extremely high, but five is a good setting in the middle. It will take some experimenting to figure out what works best for you, but here are some default settings to play with to get started.
Weapon Settings

- Aim Assist: Standard
- Weapon Mount Activation: ADS + Melee
- Weapon Mount Movement Exit: Enabled
- Aim Down Sight Behavior: Hold
- Equipment Behavior: Hold
- Use/Reload Behavior: Contextual Tap
- Depleted Ammo Weapon Switch: Enabled
This section is also critical to understand because aim assist is so important for controllers. The aim assists setting can be tweaked to make it more or less “sticky” when aiming at an enemy, but Standard is the default aim slowdown. However, feel free to experiment with the other options.
Use/Reload Behavior set to Contextual Tap is especially important in battle royale because it allows you to pick up loot from the ground by tapping Square (PS4) or X (Xbox). Otherwise, you’ll have to hold the button down, which gets old quickly when you’re trying to loot quickly.
Movement Settings
- Slide Behavior: Tap
- Auto Move Forward: Disabled
- Automatic Sprint: Disabled
- Vehicle Camera Recenter: Enabled
- Parachute Auto-Deploy: Enabled
Slide Behavior set to Tap will improve your ability to slide faster by requiring you to spend less time holding the button. In a warzone, sliding is essential, especially when dodging enemy sniper fire from a distance. However, if you keep your Slide Behavior set to Hold, it may be easier to slide cancel.
You’ll also want to enable Parachute Auto-Deploy for when you’re looking away from a second monitor while dropping in.
