Installation Process
- To begin, fully charge the doorbell’s battery by removing it from the system and connecting it to the included USB.
- A quick tip: Before installing the battery, we recommend fully charging it. You’ll know it’s fully charged when the red charging light turns off, leaving only the green power light on.
- When you’re finished, replace the battery in its compartment; you’ll hear a click when it’s secure.
- Start the Ring app (Android, iOS) setup process by following the on-screen instructions.
- You are now ready to install the doorbell once you have completed the setup. To avoid electrocution, make sure to turn off the relevant breaker before you begin.
- Disconnect the wires from your existing doorbell and remove them from the wall.
- Next, decide where you want the doorbell to go on your wall. To begin, attach the included orange mini-level to the slot on the front of the doorbell to prevent it from being installed at an angle.
- Optional: Ring recommends placing your doorbell about four feet off the ground to maximize its visibility. If your current doorbell is higher, use the included wedge attachment to angle it downward so you can still see everything.
- Optional: If your walls are stucco, brick, or concrete, your doorbell will require some assistance in attaching to the wall. Mark the location of the doorbell with a pencil, then drill holes into the wall with the included drill bit and insert the anchors into the holes over the doorbell.
- The doorbell should now be wired into the wall. To begin, loosen the two terminal screws on the back of the doorbell with the included screwdriver.
- Optional: If the wires for your original doorbell are too short, you can extend them with the Ring’s included wire extensions and wire nuts.
- The doorbell wires should then be secured beneath the terminal screws. It makes no difference which wire goes to which screw as long as they are securely attached to one another and the exposed parts are not touching.
- Give them a gentle tug to ensure that they are securely fastened. Return all of the wires to the wall and secure the doorbell to the wall with the provided screws.
- Remove the mini-level and snap on the doorbell’s faceplate, starting at the top and working your way down.
- Use one of the included security screws to secure the faceplate after switching the included screwdriver bit to the star-shaped end. Reconnect the power to your breaker.
